📢 What's New @ Read To Me

EP 3 | 29 June 2025

Hey, it's Lucas 👋

Following the recent update to introduce email confirmations, I'm thrilled to roll out two more powerful features designed to give you more choice and a better listening experience: a massively expanded voice library and content-aware chapter detection.

If you prefer, you can watch the video version here:

More Voices, More Personalities

Finding the right narrator can transform a good audiobook into a great audiobook. While the different quality tiers have always offered distinct narration styles, you now have far more variety within those tiers.

Previously, each audio quality tier offered two voice options (male and female). Now, you have a much larger selection:

Each voice is described to help you choose, and you can still preview them with the inline "Play Sample" button before converting.

Smarter Chapters

Additionally, I've added smarter chapters. Previously, Read-to-Me relied on the document's embedded metadata (the formal Table of Contents in a PDF or EPUB) to create chapter stops. While effective, many PDFs don't contain this metadata, resulting in an audiobook without chapters.

The new chapter detection solves this.

If a document has no chapter metadata, Read-to-Me will now analyze the content and structure of the text to infer chapters based on formatting cues like headings.

This means that even if you upload a PDF without a formal Table of Contents, our system will intelligently create chapter breaks for you, making it easier to navigate long audiobooks.

Introducing Order Confirmation Emails

Hey, it's Lucas 👋

Getting your Read-to-Me audiobooks is now easier! After converting your PDF or EPUB, you'll now receive an order confirmation email.

This email includes your document details, selected voice/quality, estimated processing time, and a direct link to download your audiobook once it's ready.

No need to wait on the page or worrying about losing your download link - access your audiobook directly from your inbox!

EP 1 | 15 May 2025

Hey, it's Lucas 👋

I want to start giving regular updates on what has changed for Read To Me, and this is the first one.

If you prefer, you can watch the video version here:

Preprocessing Visualizer

Some things in documents are meant for eyes, not ears. While Read To Me always has removed distracting elements before generating your audiobook, I didn't do a good job in explaining what I removed and how it impacts the resulting audiobook.

To address this, I've added a visual tool that shows the differences these preprocessing steps make.

Head over to benefits to check it out.

Improved Basic Quality

I changed the provider of the basic quality, resulting in faster processing speeds and a 50% reduction in costs compared to the previous provider. Upload your document to see how these changes benefit you!
